Frequently Asked Questions

~ Is this age-appropriate for kids?~
After speaking to a few folks at the Kona store, it was concluded that for older children (intermediate school and above) that have sewing experience and are able to sit and focus on the task at hand without constant reminder, this may be age-appropriate. However, they will be counted as a separate registration.
~ Is there a group/block rate for hotel rooms? ~
No, unfortunately there is not. After working out the costs, it was discovered that the Kamaaina rate at the King Kam is actually the more affordable way to go.
~ Will you validate parking? ~
Yes, we will be validating parking. Just make sure you ask for it. 🙂
~ Can I split the registration with someone else because I can only make one day? ~
Short answer:  No. Registration is for both days and we do not offer one day registrations nor do we allow you to “share” your registration with someone else.

Counting…Counting…Counting…

Hi Friends!

Over the next two weeks, all of our Discount Fabric Warehouse stores will be conducting inventory, which means there will be some slight changes in the hours of some of our locations.

Kauai will be having their inventory on Thursday, January 07, 2016. They will be open during their inventory although they suggest that you visit them another day so they can give you the best customer service possible.

Hilo’s inventory will take place on Sunday, January 10, 2016, as will Maui’s. Both stores will be closed that day for inventory.

And finally, Kona’s inventory will be on Sunday, January 17, 2016. They will be closed for inventory.

If you have any questions about any of the stores and their inventory schedules, please feel free to contact the store in question.

Have a wonderful week!

We hope you’ve checked your mailing recently, because our VIC Christmas mailer was sent out! With sale prices and specials good until December 24, you’ll have lots of options for every sewer and quilter on your Christmas list! (And you may want to circle things and leave your mailer around for “helpful hints” to loved ones with things that you wouldn’t mind receiving for Christmas either.)

If you haven’t gotten your mailer yet, check with your local Discount Fabric Warehouse store to make sure that your address is correct in the system. You can also e-mail us at fabricdfw@gotfabric.com to verify your address. If you e-mail us, unfortunately, we’re unable to see what is currently in the system, but we can send in your address to be updated.

Not a VIC member? What are you waiting for? You have to be a VIC member to get any of our sale prices in any of our mailers. You’re going to want to go in to Discount Fabric Warehouse to sign up!

For the sake of convenience, we’ve included the mailer here in this post. You can download it and view it at your convenience. If the links don’t work for you, please let us know! While the images here in the post are .jpg, the actual file with the mailer is a PDF. You’ll need the appropriate program on your computer or mobile device to be able to open it.

Bernina Has Arrived in Hilo!

Hilo folks, you can now purchase Bernina machines at your Hilo Discount Fabric Warehouse store!

Previously, these amazing machines were only available at the Kona DFW location, but now they’ve made the trek over to the other side of the island!

Come in today and let us show you what these machines can do!

You Won’t Want To Miss Our Hilo Bulk Sale!

It’s that time of year again! We’re having our Discount Fabric Warehouse Bulk Sale! The sale takes place at our Hilo warehouse, so make your plans now to join us!

Once a year, for the past 10 years, we have opened up the “district” warehouse that is normally closed to the public for a Huge One Day Bulk sale. This sale takes us a week to prepare and two days to clean up after, so it’s not a small feat for us to be able to do this. Because the event takes so much prep and clean up time, we initially decided that last year was to be the last. However, so many of you took the time, both at last year’s warehouse sale and online after the event, to thank us for having the sale and share with us what it has grown to mean to some of you. Many talked about how the ability to save 50% and more made the difference between their company being profitable or not, how they saved all year to buy the bulk of their supplies at this one day sale. Some really enjoyed finding “treasures” that are not in the stores. Many liked the strange, unpredictable things that show up at these sales (those who have been regulars in the past know what I am talking about..anything from inlaid wooden boxes to antique Kimonos to candles could show up at this sale).
So we will try this one more time! Saturday, October 24, from 8:30a.m. – 5:30p.m. we will have a BULK warehouse sale in the warehouse located directly across from the entrance to the Hilo store.
This sale is not for everyone. Fabrics will be sold with a minimum of a 5 yard cut, or, in some cases, by the full bolt or roll. So unfortunately, if you can’t use 5 yards of a fabric this probably isn’t the sale for you. But if you are searching for a larger amount of fabric, we will have tons for fabric at 50% off regular price: cottons blends, batiks, satins, canvas, muslin, head liner, home decor including tropical, pre-quilted Hawaiian prints, bulk manufacturers notions, a huge selection of patterns for only $1 ea, and tons more!
(And a special note to those of you flying in — show me your plane ticket at the sale and get a special free gift!)
If you’d like more information on our Bulk Sale, please contact the Hilo store or send us an e-mail at fabricdfw@gotfabric.com.
See you there!

With the mySewMonitor app, you’ll get alerts for things like when it’s time to change the thread or when your embroidery is completed. That way, you can do other things while working on your project! Multi-tasking at its best!
  • mySewnet cloud – With the cloud, you can create, store, and access your designs from anywhere! Great for those who are on the go and suddenly come up with a great idea.
  • Large work surface – The Designer EPIC features over 5.5 inches of height and 12.2 inches from needle to arm!!

Discount Fabric Warehouse | Project Linus

Project Linus Blanket Drive

Throughout the months of September and October, Discount Fabric Warehouse stores across the state will be collecting handmade blankets for donation to Project Linus and similar organizations in our communities. You can find out more about this blanket drive on this page or in our stores!

What is Project Linus?

Project Linus is a nation-wide non-profit organization that provides handmade blankets to children in need. The organization services all 50 states and we are fortunate to have two chapters here in the state of Hawaii. There is a Hawaii Chapter as well as an Oahu Chapter. Unfortunately, at this time, no other chapters have been formed for the other islands.

According to the Project Linus national website, there are two missions that the organization believes in:

First – Provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

Second – Provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

The Hawaii Chapter has distributed blankets to organizations all over the island, including Hilo Medical Center, Hospice of Hilo, and Child and Family Services, just to name a few, as well as several organizations on the west side of the island.

So how can you help Project Linus?

You can help Project Linus by donating a completed, homemade blanket.

Any blankets that are donated must be new (not previously used), handmade (quilted, sewn, knitted, crocheted, or no-sew fringed fleece), high quality construction, machine washable and dryable, and kid friendly.  This means bright, cheerful colors!  Remember our blankets go to both boys and girls, of all ages.  Blankets must be free of pet hair, smoke smells or other strong smells.  Also, please make sure no pins have been left in the blankets! (This is from the Project Linus Hawaii Chapter website.) And although there is a need for blankets of all sizes, they can be no smaller than one yard square (36″x36″).

Blanket Drive 2018

Bring in your completed blanket during the months of September or October and receive a $5 DFW gift card for your first donation! (There’s no limit on how many blankets you can donate, but there is a limit of 1 gift card per person.)

You can also join us at one of our in-store blanket making events. Learn how to embroider or use a serger to make a blanket and donate the blanket you make! These in-store events are totally free and we provide all of the materials. We just ask that you donate the completed blanket as well as let us know that you are coming ahead of time.

Here are the dates for our remaining in-store events:

Kona
October 27, 2018 – Quilt As You Go – 10AM – 5PM
Kauai
October 26, 2018 – Serger Quilt – 10AM
For more information on any of these sessions, please contact the respective store.

You can also help Project Linus is by making a donation. It doesn’t have to be a blanket, they’re also accepting donations of supplies (fabric, batting, fleece, yarn and other supplies) as well as monetary donations.

Contact Project Linus

If you’d like more information on anything, such as more details on blankets they accept or how to make a donation, please contact the Project Linus Hawaii Chapter.

Halloween Is Coming!

Happy October Friends! Halloween is just around the corner (or just at the end of the month, depending on how you want to look at it) and our stores are busy getting ready!

The images above are from Hilo (photos at each of the ends) and Maui (photo in the middle). Just ask any of our friendly sales staff and they can give you more information on how to make these decorations and projects yourself.

We also have lots more that we just weren’t able to include in a few pictures so make sure you stop on by to see it all!
