We’re Sewing Pillowcases for Charity!
Discount Fabric Warehouse is participating in the American Patchwork & Quilting One Million Pillowcase Challenge! Throughout the month of April, we’re collecting completed pillowcases and hosting sewing events where you can stop in and make a pillowcase!
•What is the One Million Pillowcase Challenge?•
American Patchwork & Quilting has challenged quliters, sewers, and crafters to help them reach their goal of donating one million pillowcases to local charities. While there is no set time frame to help them do so, we at Discount Fabric Warehouse have chosen April to focus on this amazing event.
•How Can I Participate?•
There are several ways that you can help us help others!
~ Donate completed pillowcases to your local Discount Fabric Warehouse store! We ask that pillowcases are kept about the standard size (22 inches by 32 inches) although we can take larger to fit king size pillows.
~ Donate fabric for others to make pillowcases! The minimum length of fabric we can accept is 1/4 of a yard. Anything smaller will be too small to use.
~ Join us at Discount Fabric Warehouse at one of our in-store events to help make pillowcases for donation! On Saturday, April 14, all of our Discount Fabric Warehouse stores will be hosting pillowcase making events! Times vary by store, but we will provide all materials – including a serger to use to help make putting together the pillowcases a breeze – as well as tutorials on how to make the pillowcases.
•Where Will the Pillowcases Be Donated?•
The Big Island stores (Hilo and Kona) will be donating their completed pillowcases to the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center and Hope Services Hawaii.
Kauai has chosen the local women’s shelter as the recipient of their pillowcases.
Maui’s pillowcases will be donated to the Children’s Justice Center on Maui.
More information on each of these organizations is coming soon. You can also contact the individual stores to speak to them regarding the charities chosen.
If you have any questions regarding our pillowcase challenge, please e-mail us at fabricdfw@gotfabric.com.

If you have not yet taken this class, be brave be bold and do it! While intended for new owners, sometimes serger owners postpone using their new toy! (I think 5 years is the current record for people who have taken this class.) This class takes the mystery out of sergers and works to make you comfortable with using them, and to learn basic stitches and beginning decorative techniques. Let’s take the anxiety out of using this great machine!

Machine raw edge fusible applique is a surprisingly easy method to produce an applique quilt. No
turning under raw edges or hand appliqueing!
The contrast with the black background fabric makes the applique fabrics stand out and produces a
striking stained glass look.
We will finish the “Picture” (or almost) in this one day so come and learn this method with Viv Smith the
quilt designer.
Buy the pattern beforehand and supply your own fabrics or let Viv produce a fabric kit for the quilt top,
border and binding for $40.00 plus the pattern.
Monday 5th February. 1.00 –4.00pm. Cost $20.00.
